Security Fix Messes with Every Day Work
On Wednesday Microsoft released Security Bulletin MS06-015 (KB908531)
In this release it addressed a vulnerability in Windows Explorer which could allow remote code execution. In general this means a hacker might gain remote control of your computer through a loophole in the Windows Operating System. In doing so they could spread a virus or Trojan to other systems on your network or even across the internet.
If you notice a slow down in saving your documents in Office or opening your web browser to access the internet you might be having this problem. This problem will start to occur after a restart or first power up from Windows Update.
The problem we are facing is that this fix installed a file called VERCLSID.EXE which can be found in the Windows\System32 directory. You can navigate to this file using Windows Explorer and clicking on your C: drive. You can tell if you have this problem if the file in question is running in the Task Manager. Most of the time you shall see 1 or even more, personally have seen 15 running at once, located in the Processes tab.

Wireless Networks are becoming more and more common in Fort Smith. We encounter them daily at businesses and homes all over town. They are very versitile, cost effective, and offer a good stable connection for your investment. They usually arn't installed in a secure way however. Almost all wireless routers are not encrypted out of the box. That means if it is installed in an office and your computer is connected to it someone could very easily park accross the street from your business and access your computer as if they were setting at your desk. They can even access it over the network while you are working and you wouldn't know it. Quickbooks files, customer information such as credit information, your account numbers, private emails, web browser history, and anything else on your computer can very easily be accessed. Most people think that you would have to be a super geek computer hacker to access that information. This isn't true however most people can learn within a few minutes of searching the internet for information, or being shown by a computer networking professional.
