Symantec: PC Anywhere Is Safe After Applying Patches

We mentioned in an earlier post, that PC Anwhere should be disable.  Symantec now says they have patched PC Anywhere version 12.0, 12.1, and 12.5 after discovering source code had been stolen in 2006 recently.  They made the patches available recently, so update immediately, or even better, quit using PC Anywhere.

eLynx Printer Utility Problem

This is a very obscure problem, but if you have a printer or copier that does not support PCL out of the box, then when you try to print from software that only supports PCL, the document may disappear, or worse, crash the print spooler.

We discovered this when trying to print from a website using eLynx Printer Utility and a Muratec copier. We thought is was a driver incompatibility issue, but the usual trick of just switching the Muratec over to use an HP driver did not work. That is when we discovered that Muratec copiers (or at least the model we were working on) did not support PCL out of the box - it is an add-on option.

AVG Detecting Trojan Horse Generic6.UMS & UMU

We are seeing a few AVG users detecting a Trojan Horse Generic6.UMU or UMS, and preliminary reports are that it is a false positive, and that the latest update from AVG supposedly does not detect it. We will keep you posted as we learn more about it.
